Are there records of French emigrants to the United States, specifically New York, from around 1800? I am unable so far to trace the origin of my 3x great grandfather, Jean or John Dusolle, who married in New York in 1810 and presumably arrived there at some point in the previous 10 years. Any help would be much appreciated.

I found http://members.cox.net/smithgen/sources/ships/ships18201850.htm  which may be of help. I looked up ships passenger lists from france to america, and there are several sites on Google.

I am wondering the same thing - my great grandfather left France about 1890 for Canada but I cannot find any evidence of ship or port of departure or entry. Good luck.

I did, thank you. However, the US arrivals records are patchy at best before 1820 and I was rather hoping the French records of people leaving might be better - but I see no mention of any, anywhere.

Have you looked at the Ellis Island web site?  I easily found my ancestors on that.
Hope it helps

Ellis Island.  The name may be spelled differently so use the broadest search there is.

I do not know if this will be of help, but I found my family record of travel from LeHavre to New Orleans in 1817 by going to the archives in Rouen, France.  Their records are not online, but they do accept self-stamped addressed requests. Their website is: http://www.archivesdepartementales76.net/.

I hope this helps.

Check the Ellis Island site, it was a big immigration station and most emigrants arriving in NY had to go through it. You may find valuable info, good luck.

:) I had researched my gr grandfather and his cousin for years especially in New York; with no avail; then I found out that if a ship landed in the winter they sometimes could not dock in port of New York due to ice. I was lucky enough to read that they probably would have went down to New Orleans but the date I needed was missing. (Of all the luck). I, then found my great grandfather's petition to become a United States Citizen in Clermont County Ohio and on his declaration of intention he mentions the he was supposed to come to New York but landed in New Orleans. He was travelling with his cousin and they had relatives already in Clermont County Ohio. (The Rosselot family) so they settled there. Francis Courtot was the son of a Rosselot and his father was Jean Claude Courtot. Jean Claude Courtot and Marie Catherine Courtot were siblings and Marie Catherine was mother of Joseph Courtot. Francis Courtot also fought in the American Civil War.

I am trying to confirm William Sipprell emigration to America around 1786. Did he come through England or France. How can I confirm that he was a Huguenot?
